The Rogers County Cherokee Association (RCCA) invites the public to its monthly community gathering on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the RCCA Community Building, 15488 East 523 Road, Claremore, OK 74019 (east of the Tiawah-Justus School North Campus).

This month’s featured guest is Perry Van Buskirk, a Cherokee National Treasure recognized for his decades-long commitment to traditional Cherokee weaponry. Van Buskirk has been practicing and teaching traditional Native weapons for over 40 years—skills passed down to him by his uncle, Scott Ratcliff. His demonstration and stories bring Cherokee cultural traditions to life for all generations.

Doors open at 1:00 p.m., followed by a meal at 1:30 p.m. The main meal will be provided by Cara Cowan Watts and Jamie Rowe. Guests are welcome to bring side dishes or desserts if they wish to contribute.

The business meeting will begin at 2:00 p.m., covering updates on officer vacancies, budget matters, and an opportunity to visit with any Cherokee Nation Tribal Council members who may be in attendance. Copies of the meeting agenda will be available from the RCCA Secretary.

Following the business meeting, Van Buskirk will give a live presentation and demonstration of traditional Cherokee weaponry. This family-friendly event is open to the public and all are encouraged to attend.
